Who we are looking for:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Product Oversight and Business Risk & Controls to join our expanding SPDR ETF business in the APAC region. Working across the APAC business this role is a key addition as we invest in and build out our APAC ETF business. Reporting into the SPDR EMEA and APAC COO the role will have a broad remit and scope across Product Oversight and Business Risk & Controls and will also act a key point person, in region, for the Regional Head of ETF Business based in Sydney.

We are looking for candidates with in depth knowledge of exchange traded funds, and an advanced understanding of the infrastructure and eco system of ETF products, a Risk management background and ideally experience of a Distribution business. The ability to manage high profile projects and interact effectively with colleagues at all levels across the global business is essential.

What you will be responsible for:
  • Briefing and escalation to Regional Head of Business & Regional COO as appropriate, you will also join, attend and present at the regional Senior Leadership Team
  • Coordinating ETF service delivery and day-to-day operational effectiveness for the APAC ETF products across various operational teams, partners and locations
  • Owning the regional operational relationships with our key delivery partners and stakeholders including fund administrator, trustee, fund boards, Capital Markets, Product, etc
  • Enhancing our overall risk and control footprint in the APAC region
  • Providing strategic and tactical leadership of end-to-end issue management; maintaining excellent and timely communication among all involved parties and ensuring sustainable remediation steps are completed in a timely manner
  • Oversight, strategy setting, co-ordination and management of two direct reports, covering Product Oversight and Business Risk & Controls, their responsibilities including:
    • Creating and maintaining operational procedures, workflows, metrics and quality controls to ensure consistent standards for the APAC SPDR operating platform and funds
    • Acting as a point of contact for Capital Markets and other internal partners responsible for interacting with the primary market
    • Providing oversight and collaborate with third party service providers, tracking performance and reporting metrics against established service levels
    • Being a dedicated and knowledgeable resource for Product, Sales, Distribution, Capital Markets and other internal parties with operating platform related inquiries and requests
    • Maintaining and improving the existing operating platform infrastructure, leading key operating platform improvement projects through the development and ownership of detailed project plans
    • Contributing and inputting into the creation of Board and Committee reporting and attending meetings to provide relevant updates as needed
    • Effectively managing stakeholder relationships whilst maintaining a strong risk ethos through professional challenge
    • Re-enforcing an inherent culture of accountability and ownership for implementation and execution of controls across all levels and functions within the organization with attention to Risk Excellence and continuous self-assessment to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
    • Managing and directing the issue life cycle for all material issues/incidents, including but not limited to, fact-finding, root cause analysis, thematic exposure i.e. isolated vs. systemic, and implementation of both tactical & strategic remedial actions
    • Working closely with SPDR and SSGA colleagues in APAC to proactively manage business risk and develop into first point of contact for all Risk and control matters
    • Serving as an SME on all Policy and Procedural matters
    • Supporting the APAC Distribution & Marketing and data delivery and publication operating model
    • Strengthening the collaboration and coordination between the FLOD, Compliance, Risk, Audit and Legal including collaboration with the various risk and compliance programs including Integrated non-financial Risk assessment (INFRA), Operational Risk and Compliance Oversight Program (COP);
    • Identifying areas of improvement specifically as they relate to data quality and integration including but not limited to implementing additional controls and process enhancements;
    • Supporting assessment activity and engagement protocol between first and second lines of defense

Education & Preferred Qualifications/Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 10+ years' experience of ETF or funds product management / operations / risk
  • Strong process orientation and ability to use operations and technology to respond appropriately and support a dynamic ETF platform
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships within SSGA and with external partners to seek solutions quickly and effectively and resolve operating incidents
  • Ability to execute and lead projects to a successful conclusion
  • Ability to influence at senior levels of the firm
  • Strong team building and management skills
  • Detail oriented with ability to focus and multi-task in fast-paced work environment
  • A self-starter who approaches work enthusiastically and demonstrates initiative
  • Experience of working in cross regional, cross functional matrix structures

Where will the role be based
The role is focused on the SPDR ETF APAC business and would be based in either Sydney, Singapore or Hong Kong depending on talent pool, business needs etc.
