Data Governance Analyst – Business Technology

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Data Governance Analyst to play a key role in improving our data quality, data capture, and data knowledge sharing. The successful applicant will focus on working with subject matter experts (SMEs) and data stewards to capture data entities, elements, attributes, and their definitions and descriptions. Additional responsibilities include helping to manage our data quality processes, reporting, and remediation, as well as executing data quality oversight. The Data Governance Analyst will be expected to support the data quality and data definition needs of varying projects, as well as help execute on initiatives that further the goals of the Data Governance Office, Business Technology team, and the firm as a whole.

This role is intended for those who have a desire and passion for a high level of data quality; are curious about discovering data and deducing meaning; cataloging data; and knowledge and data management.

This role is not intended for those who wish to pursue data science or data analytics. The ability to create dashboards, reports, or visualizations is not required.

This is a one-year contract position reporting to the Manager of Data Governance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Capture and maintain key business data entities, elements, and attributes across multiple platforms with the assistance of SMEs and data stewards
  • Perform data analysis to bring both data issues to light and data understanding to data users and consumers
  • Develop, maintain, and report data quality metrics
  • Work with Project Managers and Business Analysts to incorporate data quality processes in project life cycles
  • Conduct data and requirements analysis for data quality rule development, as well as establish and maintain processes, execution, monitoring, and remediation
  • Establish, maintain, and execute on business data definition processes

Education, Skills & Qualifications

Mandatory

  • A passion towards data and data management
  • Post-secondary education in business/commerce, computer science, finance, or related discipline
  • Strong business analysis skills, especially requirements analysis, elicitation and collaboration, solution design, and associated techniques
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, including data cleansing and preparation; knowledge of SQL (especially T-SQL and PLSQL)
  • Strong understanding of the investment management industry and a drive for continuous learning
  • Understanding of data discovery and data description processes
  • Strong ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels; collaborate between teams; and a solid understanding of/experience with being part of a high-performing team

Desired

  • Understanding of and/or experience with technical documentation, business process documentation, and data documentation
  • Understanding of SDLC Methodologies including Agile/Scrum/Kanban
  • Experience with data quality tools, e.g., Metadata/Lineage/Data Catalog/Business Glossary tools
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of the Microsoft Azure tech stack, especially Azure Data Factory
