- Position: Senior Private Fund Investment Analyst
- Location: Seattle, WA
- Summary: Progeny 3 is an institutional single-family office formed in 2007. Service offerings include portfolio management, financial, tax and estate planning, tax return preparation, accounting, and bookkeeping services to family members. The office manages a globally diversified portfolio, spanning traditional and alternative asset classes, using strategy specific managers as well as directly investing in public equities, private equity, fixed income, and real estate. The venture capital and private equity portfolios broadly consist of both funds and direct investments across a variety of industries. Progeny 3 is an entrepreneurial organization that values integrity, collaboration, and accountability.
- Responsibilities and Duties: Progeny 3 is seeking a senior investment analyst to focus on private investments in venture capital and private equity fund managers. The analyst will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating new fund investments, managing existing relationships, and continually refining the strategy for this growing piece of the portfolio. The primary duties and responsibilities include the following:
- New Investment Evaluation
- Lead the entire process for underwriting potential new managers, including running meetings, conducting research, and preparing materials with final recommendations
- Key diligence areas will include evaluation of team, digging into track records and assessment of strategy, along with fit in overall portfolio
- Source and develop relationships with managers for prospective new fund investments
- Flexibility to explore wide variety of areas of opportunity and interest
- Ongoing Investments
- Monitor existing investment partners with ongoing meetings and review of update materials, continually reviewing performance vs. expectations
- Manage relationships both to seek growth opportunities as well as make decisions where investments are not performing as planned
- Role will also include variety of projects such as broader portfolio analysis, deep dives of targeted asset classes, and ad hoc research
- New Investment Evaluation
- Education: Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics. A tangential area of study is acceptable if there is strong interest in the industry coupled with the right skillset.
- Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum:
- 5+ years of experience at an endowment, foundation, pension, or investment firm
- Existing relationships with private investment firms, especially venture capital firms
- Experience with analysis and decision making around investment manager selection
- Self-starter who will take initiative and has passion for investing
- Working knowledge of capital markets and investment principles, particularly venture capital and private equity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate viewpoints
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Preferred:
- Experience evaluating potential co-investments
- Financial modeling skills
- CFA or MBA a plus
