About the Portfolio Specialist Role:

We are seeking a mid-level professional to serve as a portfolio specialist supporting our public equity strategies. Portfolio specialists act as the primary interface between our marketing, client relations, and portfolio management teams.

Portfolio specialists have five key focus areas: 1) promotional and thought leadership content generation, 2) portfolio performance and positioning reporting, 3) portfolio and competitive analysis, 4) client relations support, and 5) product development and management.

The ideal candidate balances a passion for equity investing with a creative mind and a client-oriented perspective.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assume responsibility for select public equity portfolios. The portfolio specialist will become the portfolio's representative on the Client Relations Team, and will serve as the point-person for content development, materials, and any portfolio questions or requests
  • Attend portfolio team meetings to gain context for portfolio management decisions and share perspectives on marketing opportunities and challenges
  • Work closely with the Stewardship Team to develop external-facing content relating to the firm's engagement activity and other ESG-related topics
  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of pitchbooks and other marketing materials
  • Support the development of promotional and thought leadership content through analysis and collaboration with portfolio specialists, investment writers, and designers
  • Review and contribute product knowledge to Requests for Proposal (RFP), due diligence questionnaires, and other inbound inquiries as needed
  • Prepare talking points, memos, and other internal-facing material to prep client relations directors for meetings
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and the competitive landscape to inform product positioning and business development opportunities
  • Occasionally serve as proxy for the investment team in client and prospect meetings
  • Other professional responsibilities, as needed
  • Exhibit behaviors consistent with Sands Capital's mission, values, and culture

Skills and Qualifications:
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in the investment management, investment consulting, or wealth management industries
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; MBA and/or CFA is a plus
  • Deep understanding of global capital markets, economics, and industry trends affecting long-term growth equity investing
  • Fast learner with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented, highly responsive, and able to work independently
  • Interest and experience with ESG principles and investment considerations
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience with analytical tools and databases such as PitchBook, FactSet, eVestment, Morningstar Direct, and MSCI ESG/Sustainalytics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications

Values for Success at Sands Capital:
  • Focus: Identify and concentrate on "what matters"
  • Long-Term Perspective: Appreciate that time allows sound decisions to demonstrate their worth. Avoid short-term thinking
  • Independent Thinking: Have the courage to develop and articulate your own convictions. Debate others openly and honestly
  • Teamwork: Collaborate to gather facts, develop perspective, build conviction, and support timely decision-making
  • Positive "Can-Do" Attitude: Demonstrate a willingness to tackle any task
