Job Details
As a Senior Vice President in the esoteric finance team (ERT), you will be working in a cross-functional team of senior professional responsible for reviewing areas of risk in esoteric finance. This role will be responsible for assessing if proposals present risks that DBRS Morningstar has existing methodological approaches to address. In addition, you have the opportunity to support methodological development as it needed to support EET efforts. This is anticipated while promoting consistent credit analysis within the analytical groups. This includes assisting the analytical groups with the analysis of complex and singular credits. This position is newly created and is expected to fill a key quantitative role for the team and includes responsibilities related to compiling and presenting rating performance data.
Job Responsibilities
As a part of the team, you will be exposed to various aspects of methodology development and rating process as they relate to esoteric finance. This may include (1) a leading role in the response to a query as to whether DBRS can provide a rating in a given area and (2) participating in development or review of methodologies, models and other analytics. This position gives the opportunity to interact with different teams and to present results of analytical processes to the senior stakeholders during rating and criteria committees. Other general items may include:
- Leading the assessment of ABS related esoteric finance areas (including a new asset approach, whole-business, venture debt, alternative commercial obligations, co-location datacenters, cell towers, long-dated consumer debt, RMBS neoterics).
- Cooperating with CPG analysts (and other Covered Personnel) in the promotion of consistency.
- Conducting and cooperating with the independent review function regarding new and updated methodologies.
- Coordinating with Strategic Planning managers, methodology development teams and other stakeholders.
- Representing DBRS Morningstar with external stakeholders.
- Communicate with the regulator, as appropriate.
- Participate in key industry conferences as instructed.
- Creating, populating and delivering management and board reporting.
- Supporting the CCO and (to the extent applicable) the Independent Review Function with planning, managing and execution of IRF activities.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Economics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance or related fields)
- 15+ years of hands-on experience and solid skills of credit risk/securitization modeling
- Experience working on complex transactions where risk area has not previously been identified by you or your organization (e.g. DBRS Morningstar).
- Leadership of transactional or process oriented teams, particularly those requiring cross team collaboration.
- Experience working with (using, reviewing and/or developing) credit analytics, cash flow engines, analytical tools and predictive models in a similar environment.
- Strong math, logic, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills in addition to strong presentation and relation skills.
- Ability to challenge convention and technical concepts.
- Able to communicate technical/complex concepts in a non-technical jargon to a diverse groups of senior stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm for new challenges, using advanced techniques and creativity to find novel solutions.
- Ability to manage self and others’ work across several work streams on complex projects
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including business line leaders, ratings analysts and model developers/reviewers
- Highly efficient and effective in sometimes stressful, fast paced environments
Nice to have
• Completion of a Master’s degree or higher in a technical discipline (Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Accounting, Law or related fields).
• Working knowledge of Python data science stack (numpy, pandas, sci-kit learn, Tensorflow).
• Experience with R, R Shiny and/or SAS, and/or technological solutions (e.g. Jupyter notebooks) to having electronic notebooks communicate results.
• Experience at a rating agency, underwriter, lender, or investor in US ABS.
• Fluency in an foreign language a plus.
