Position Description:

Pacific Investment Management Company LLC (PIMCO) seeks a Senior Database Engineer for its Newport Beach, CA location. Job ID 32380

Duties: Provide production support and development support for PIMCO's Oracle Engineered Systems on various Exadata platforms. Assist in the design, development, maintenance, and improvement for application/system monitoring tools. Gather data from PIMCO's night cycle, perform complex SQL tuning, and convert Sybase to Oracle SQL as required. Utilize Exadata Smart Scan to optimize query performance and offloading capabilities. Utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c to support Oracle fleet management cloud per PIMCO specific SLA's. Utilize GoldenGate, HVR, and Dataguard to perform data integration and replication between various databases. Configure and maintain Oracle active Dataguard and logical standby databases for Disaster recovery purposes. Support Oracle RAC, database upgrades, and operations over a petabyte of Oracle data. Demonstrate expertise in backup and recovery technologies, including using ZFS snapshot clones, Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance, Recovery Manager, and export/import. Upgrade databases to latest Oracle version. Implement Oracle Cluster Ready Services patches, patch set updates, bundle patches, security updates, and grid infrastructure upgrades as required. Troubleshoot production issues, isolate causes, perform debugging as required, and document resolution. Work closely with development teams in PIMCO technology and analytics to ensure proper use of Oracle features, best practices and adherence to PIMCO database standards.

Position Requirements:

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or related field, and five (5) years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience in the position offered or related position. Full term of experience must include: utilizing Oracle Exadata to gather data and perform SQL tuning in support of databases and systems; utilizing GoldenGate, HVR, and Dataguard to perform data integration and replication between various databases; undertaking database upgrades from initial user testing phase to live phase, and conducting performance testing, load testing, rollback plans, and Oracle support as needed; performing Data Machine Administration and managing the entire Exadata stack, including the database, cluster, storage, compute, Infiniband, switches, and power distribution units (PDU's); performing backup and recovery of databases using Oracle Recovery Manager, Zero Data Loss, Data Guard, Virtual Copies, networking, and log shipping; troubleshooting production issues, including isolating causes, performing debugging as required, and conducting document resolution.
