Business Unit Overview:

Fundamental Equities sits within BlackRock's Portfolio Management Group (PMG), which encompasses Fundamental and Systematic investing across Fixed Income, Equities and Multi-Asset Strategies.

The Fundamental Equities (FE) business is a key division at BlackRock with over $253bn of assets under management, across 100+ strategies and over 220+ investment professionals. FE use traditional analytics to pick stocks and assemble coherent, deliberate and diversified portfolios. Through cutting edge technology, sophisticated models and embedded research, our investment management approach provides superior performance for our clients and is an important part of the BlackRock brand.

Overview:
  • Director-level role
  • Lead role in driving commercial success for FE Health Science Equity team, working closely with the head of Active Sectors and Megatrends product strategy, and the broader Active Sectors and Megatrend product strategy team
  • Responsible for business development, product strategy and client communication across the Health Science Equity product range
  • Strong leadership skills a requirement, proven people management experience a plus
Team:
The BlackRock Health Science team is responsible for managing ~$30billion1 of dedicated health science equity mandates. The Team includes six dedicated healthcare Team members with an average of 20 years' experience in scientific research, medicine and investing. The Team includes four PhD's and one MD degree in internal medicine and utilize this strong scientific background as a core element of the investment process.

The Active Sectors and Megatrend strategy team is responsible for the client engagement, revenue generation and opportunity development across ~$75billion1 of assets. There are five individuals based in the US, and a further three based overseas. The Active Sectors and Megatrend strategy business encompasses fundamental equity mandates across Technology, FinTech, Climate Investments, Commodities, amongst others, in addition to the Health Science business.

Background :
Actively searching for a lead Product Strategist to work within the Active Sectors and Megatrend strategy team in New York. As the primary investment contact for relationship managers within the firm, this role will be seen as the go to person for all the Health Science Equity business across FE. This will include portfolio and market views as well as all product related matters.

Role:
  • Drive business growth across the active Health Science Equity suite in conjunction with channel partners globally
  • A proactive business "owner" working in conjunction with the Health Science Equity team portfolio management team, distribution and product development partners
  • Credible representative of the Health Science Equity portfolio managers to internal and external clients
  • Key link to facilitate effective interactions between portfolio managers and clients/ consultants, allowing managers to focus on the day to day running of their funds
  • Meet with clients, prospects, and/or intermediaries to explain the investment philosophy, process, and performance or multiple strategies
  • Provide updates on overall financial market performance, economic trends and the team's market outlook
  • Role best suited to someone who has proven experience of working with retail and institutional clients, understands markets and has occupied a similar role or leadership function
  • The candidate will also need strong leadership, management and communication skills, excellent numerical skills and be technologically proficient
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with relationship managers (retail & institutional) to engage clients, prospects, consultants and intermediaries on BlackRock's full Health Science Fundamental Equity product range
  • Overall responsibility and oversight for marketing materials including portfolio reviews, market updates and other timely marketing materials
  • Proactive approach to solving clients' investment-related, business and operational issues by serving as the liaison between the investment team and all other areas of BlackRock (marketing, sales, compliance, legal etc)
  • Contribute to new business opportunities, development of marketing strategies, development of new product offerings and respond to requests for proposal (RFPs)
  • Grow the team's assets under management/revenue and uphold superior fund ratings
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Educated to degree level and relevant financial markets experience essential
  • Extensive experience in a client service/business development role, within the investment management industry
  • Passion for, and deep knowledge of equity markets
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Ability to understand and articulate fund management strategies clearly and with confidence
  • Strong presentation as well as oral and written communications skills
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel and ability to develop familiarity and skills using proprietary technology
  • Degree in business, analytics or quantitative streams. MBA, other advanced degree and/or CFA designation preferred
