FSA is an active investment management firm with a track record of over 30 years. Our tactical approach focuses much of our attention on risk management; that is, protecting client assets during times of severe market stress. We manage assets in nine broad strategies using open end mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs). We work primarily with individual clients, but also manage a number of corporate and retirement plan accounts. We operate on the premise that making money in good markets is only helpful if you don’t lose the money in the ensuing bear markets. Or said another way, “Winning by not losing.” We are looking to hire a new team member who will assist the Chief Investment Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Investment Analyst can expect to focus their work in the following areas:

  • Market Research—collecting, managing, and developing general market indicators to gauge overall market risk
  • Security Research—tracking our current investments, as well as researching new investment ideas
  • Fund Relations—develop and maintain relations with the various fund and ETF providers so that they understand and are comfortable with our tactical approach
  • Work with our performance consultant to provide performance of our six composites according to Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS)
  • Presentations—assist in the development of collateral materials and presentations for clients and prospective clients
  • Portfolio Management—managing client cash flows to get accounts in line with our various models
  • Trading—acting as backup to the Assistant Portfolio Manager in trading client accounts
  • Process Improvement—Aptitude or capacity to improve internal processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (with MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst or Chartered Market Technician or interest in pursuing those is preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in investment management and/or financial advisory services with good understanding of all basic investment concepts and theories, including statistics
  • Experience in active management is preferable (or certainly an appreciation of its benefits versus a strategic investment approach)
  • Familiarity with portfolio management and trading software is preferred
  • Experience or understanding of technical analysis and use of charting programs
  • High level of experience and strong skills using Excel spreadsheets
  • Self-starter who takes initiative with little direction
  • Inherent sense of accountability and ability to take responsibility for work
  • Organized, detail-oriented and possesses the ability to multi-task
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills
  • Good follow-through skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
