Position Summary
Custom Solutions Outsourced Chief Investment Officer ("OCIO") group partners with Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors across all channels to offer full discretion portfolio management services to institutional and private clients (e.g., Defined Benefit plans, Endowments, Foundations, Family Offices, etc.) of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
The Custom Solutions OCIO group is looking for an entrepreneurial, ambitious and intellectually curious professional to join the team as an Investment Officer within the Endowment & Foundation practice. The Investment Officer plays a vital role as developing and managing customized client portfolios in a client facing capacity, as well as supporting and improving business analytics and operations. The Investment Officer will partner and collaborate across home office and advisory organizations, including prospect management, investment officers, manager research, oversight, operations, and technology.
Responsibilities include:
• Build and manage client portfolios, including end-to-end development and management of customized portfolio construction, manager selection, investment policy statement construction, portfolio implementation, and ongoing portfolio rebalances and reviews for Endowments and Foundations
• Maintain ongoing, proactive contact with the advisor and the client in managing the relationship
• Present to small and large audiences and must be comfortable in one-on-one clients meetings
• Research, develop and maintain multi-asset class portfolios, portfolio construction tools, and client investment policy database
• Analyze prospect portfolios and develop asset allocations and recommendations for finals presentations
• Manage and improve group's systems, infrastructure, platforms and business processes
• Interface and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including research, trading, operations, product specialists, third party vendors and custodians
• Create and maintain enterprise business management reports and dashboards
• Develop workflows and solutions around risk management, portfolio implementation and client coverage
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Experience and knowledge in global capital markets, technical expertise across asset classes preferred
• Experience and knowledge in investment/ wealth management platforms and vehicles, including managed account platforms, mutual funds, ETFs, separate accounts, and alternative investments
• Firm understanding of portfolio management concepts including modern portfolio theory, asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection, risk management and performance attribution
• Strong strategic thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to clearly define a problem, synthesize data to derive fact-based insights, and provide insightful and actionable recommendations
• Experience working with Bloomberg, Factset, complex datasets and relational databases
• Comfort and experience in programming is a plus; VBA, SQL experience is preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Access
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Must be very detail-oriented, with an ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities
• Ability to work independently and effectively on a team, with demonstrated leadership abilities
• Technical background with strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive & hard working with strong professional accountability
Qualifications
• 6-10 years of investment-related experience in the Financial Services industry
• CFA, CAIA and other professional designations a plus
• FINRA Series 7 and 66 is a plus (candidate will be expected to obtain these licenses within 3 months of hire date and additional licensing may be required)
