Senior Revenue Accountant

Why it matters: As a Senior Revenue Accountant you will be responsible for the monthly close, and lend your skills towards developing and implementing accounting policies. This person will have a heavy focus on revenue and participate in budgeting and forecasting.  This role will interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and assist in preparing schedules for board reporting. This role is very integrated into the production of financial statements, cash flow projections, and budgets. This is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity with growth potential.  

The details: In this role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

• Detail review of contracts to determine proper revenue accounting under the ASC606 guidelines
• Oversight of accounts receivable and collection process
• Work with the team to perform the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process, including monthly financial workbook preparation
• When necessary, provide technical accounting analysis on non-routine transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment
• Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analysis for management reporting 
• Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
• Review fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation 
• Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
• Adhere to monthly reporting requirements and compliance standards
• Prepare and review complex journal entries and account reconciliations 
• Maintain and update recurring journal entries 
• Participate in various department-wide initiatives 
• Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested

• Experience working at a media company
• Experience with revenue recognition under ASC 606 is required
• Strong organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Sage Intacct, Microsoft Word, and advance in Microsoft Excel 
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently is required
• In-depth experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations 
• Experience with Month End Close, financial reporting and budgeting
• Experience in a "paperless" environment is preferred 
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced business environment; as this role includes various responsibilities from clerical to financial analysis
