The team/the business
The S&P Global Ratings Global Infrastructure practice has about 130 analysts covering about 1,200 ratings across utilities, power, transportation infrastructure, and project finance. We now have an opening for an Analytical Manager for a newly created Infrastructure and utilities team covering the dynamic and high-profile Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, etc.) market. The successful candidate will manage a strong team of two "pods" totaling about 12-13 analysts covering around 65-70 rated entities/transactions and be a member of the Global Infrastructure Ratings leadership team. The Analytical Manager reports to the Global Head of Infrastructure & Utilities.

Key responsibilities and expectations
A successful Analytical Manager will:
  • Drive analytical and (customer) service excellence
    • Lead the team's effort to deliver highest quality (and timely) analytics and superior customer service to issuers, investors, and intermediaries
    • Act as senior S&P representative in high profile external interactions and in challenging customer relationships
  • Elevate talent management (retain, recruit, develop/train, coach, etc.), fostering team spirit, and executing on a resource/talent strategy
    • Retain, develop, and grow analysts on the team, focus on team member career development, ensure adequate resourcing, and integrate new talent effectively
  • Strengthen market impact through leadership of effective outreach and innovation
    • Build and grow franchise/brand advocacy in Greater China and across the global infrastructure market
    • Liaise with and support initiatives with other regional practices, the Greater China Infrastructure team and the global practice
  • Improve operational effectiveness/efficiency and (pro)active risk management in a regulated environment
    • Enable analysts to focus on value added analytical tasks and ensure adequate risk culture/awareness is embedded at all levels
    • Adopt and drive a lean management culture to enhance efficiencies and employee satisfaction
    • Participate/lead process improvement and analytical projects to improve operational efficiency
What we are looking for
We are looking for an individual demonstrating the following characteristics:

Credit analysis, sector knowledge, and customer service
  • Strong understanding/experience of credit analysis and ratings, preferably in infrastructure or other capital-intensive sectors
  • Demonstrated and extensive infrastructure industry expertise, preferably with a good understanding of project finance transactions and methodology
  • Strong client and credit markets' knowledge and ability to contribute to the continued development of S&P Global Ratings' franchise
  • Proven ability to drive, promote, and reward high quality, insightful analysis and customer service
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, specifically public speaking/writing skills
Leadership and behaviors
  • Demonstrated advanced interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ability to think strategically, provide insight, and set direction/priorities
  • Proven ability to prioritize and focus team resources effectively as well as good administrative skills. Excellent time management skills and the ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and multitask.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree preferred (e.g. CFA, MBA, JD)
  • 10-15 years of significant experience in financial services sector with a fixed income/credit profile, and/or a relevant infrastructure sector experience strongly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and, preferably, Mandarin
  • Personal skills: team player, proven coaching and mentoring skills, good strong time management and communication skills
