Job Summary:

With minimal supervision, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to augment the production and marketing efforts of the senior analyst with incremental research coverage and analysis.  The Associate Analyst and Senior Analyst have joint responsibility for determining research strategy and planning for their assigned sector.  The Associate Analyst has secondary responsibility for executing the research process, including: preparing industry and company research, creating and projecting financial models, developing and effectively articulating an industry thesis and industry report, making and maintaining contacts within the industry and representing Raymond James at sector related functions. The Associate Analyst may also have primary research responsibility of a handful of stocks in their universe.


This is a two year program with an optional third year (at the discretion of the manager) after which a determination will be made regarding the associate’s long-term senior analyst potential. Performance is measured on agreed upon milestones in achieving specified results.  Successful progress as an associate analyst is a possible career path to becoming a senior analyst.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


• Initiates fundamental written research on related equities within an assigned industry.
• Compiles data about assigned industries and companies.
• Performs quantitative analysis of macroeconomic variables that impact the industry.
• Creates and updates financial models for revenue and income forecasts.
• Proactively markets his/her research ideas to institutional clients.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications - External

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge of:


• High level concepts, practices and procedures of research analysis.
• High level investment concepts, practices and procedures used in the securities industry.
• Principles of banking, finance and securities industry operations.
• Financial markets and products. 


Skill in:


• Identifying relationships, drawing logical conclusions and interpreting results for use in decision-making.
• Quantitative and analytical skills sufficient to assist in the development of corporate financial projections and equity valuation metrics.
• Analyzing and interpreting financial statements.
• Operating standard office equipment and using required software application to produce correspondence, reports, electronic communication, and spreadsheets.


Ability to:


• Use appropriate interpersonal styles and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all organizational levels and external clients.
• Multi-task and work on a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Efficiently manage time and resources in order to overcome quantitative and analytical challenges as they arise.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:


• Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in finance, accounting, or business-related field and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the financial services industry or in the industry they cover.
• Proven history of institutional client recognition.
• CFA strongly encouraged.

Licenses/Certifications:

• SIE required provided that an exemption or grandfathering cannot be applied.
• FINRA Series 63/66, Series 86 and Series 87 license required.
