Divisional Description

Product Control are the Financial Guardians of the Bank's trading activities. We are a global function employing around 800 people, present in offices across EMEA, APAC and the Americas. Our crucial role is fulfilled by ensuring complete, accurate and timely P&L, Balance Sheets and analysis. We also conduct the independent validation of the value of our trading portfolios and work with the businesses and the new business product groups to evaluate & integrate new products and businesses into our financial environment in a controlled manner. Product Control also guards the banks trading activities via the provision of reliable and significant financial information provided to the business managers, external partners and other relevant internal constituents. Importantly, we also execute controls to detect unauthorized trading or unusual activity and raise in a timely manner to senior management.

Key Responsibilities

Pune based role with responsibilities and oversight for Business Financial Officer (BFO) functions. We fulfill this role through:

  • Executing controls to detect unauthorized trading or unusual activity and raise on time to senior management. The product coverage: Equities, Equity Swaps, Equity Derivatives & Structured Notes.

Below are the responsibilities of BFO function:-

  • End to end ownership of team producing daily P&L production and supervisory review of P&L production processes including: FOBO Review, P&L Analysis, P&L Reporting, P&L Commentary, Month End Cut Off Controls & SOX Testing.
  • Driving resolution of issues that arise from the day to day and monthly processes with a view to resolving these in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ensuring the P&L production and analytical function are performing satisfactory in Key Performance Indicator and KRI for the control function.
  • Validation and control around the PnL & Balance Sheet with a license to challenge valuation and accounting methodologies, residual trading and operational risks and the overall impact on the bank; 2
  • Analytically evaluate the performance of trading desks to help prepare commercial and business focused commentary for the use of senior management and regulators
  • Obtaining and understanding of the underlying businesses and develop, maintain and govern an effective control framework
  • Preparing and reviewing key disclosures from accounting disclosure such as Fair Value leveling (FAS 157) to regulatory disclosures
  • Validating and substantiating that new trades are accurate through Structured Trade Reviews, New Deal Reviews, New Business Initiatives and the Pre Trade Approval process
  • Developing and driving a change agenda with a focus on not only delivering efficiencies but also to meet an ever challenging regulatory environment
  • Responsible for the training and career development of the team
  • Reviewing and implementing improvements in execution over the wider group
  • Maintaining key relationships and representing the PC agenda in meeting with functions such as Front Office, COO, CFO Change, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, Central Reporting etc

  • Proven work experience of 5+ years in Financial Services industry
  • Strong people management & team leadership (team size of 4-5)
  • Proven 5+ years of Product Control experience
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or related fields
  • Detailed knowledge around accounting and valuation of the aforementioned products
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills and ability to define and apply logical approach to issue resolution
  • Outstanding communication (written, verbal, presentational) skills
  • A phenomenal team leader with the ability to work closely across locations
  • A solid control focused attitude and hands-on approach to investigating issues
  • Accounting qualification is helpful.
  • A CFA or CPA qualification will be an advantage.
  • Auditing experience is an advantage.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong Communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good expertise with Excel
  • Result oriented, dedicated, hardworking who can work on own initiative and can deliver on time with a high level of integrity and flexibility, sense of urgency, attention to detail and quality standards
