A brand new Commercial role has now come live at a listed Oil & Gas Company in Central London.

The Company expects to go through a significant period of development during the period 2021-24, whereby it expects to grow through a combination of organic and in-organic activity. The result of this should see the company increase in size by a factor of 3 to 4. This role is expected to be a key enabler of this growth.

Responsibilities

Our client is a fast growing, fast paced and lean organisation where priorities are constantly evolving, and on-time delivery of projects is a prerequisite.
  • Full responsibility for commercially robust economic modelling across the Group, including:
  • Design and development of economic oil & gas models, ensuring consistency of modelling techniques, inputs, assumptions and outputs across the business. Models should be prepared in an accessible form that can be easily interpreted and understood by all stakeholders
  • Maintenance and updates of their fully integrated corporate economic model (NPV, NAV, balance sheet, income statement etc)
  • Performing risk based economic evaluations/sensitivities to evaluate the feasibility of projects and facilitate the investment decision-making process, identifying key business drivers
  • Perform economic assessment of new commercial opportunities and/or amendments to existing commercial arrangements
  • Ensuring effective and robust analysis with regards to due diligence in business development/M&A work
  • Providing economic modelling and sensitivity analysis in order to fully understand and implement value drivers that could significantly increase project returns
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of strategic reviews and presentations, including Executive Committee and Board papers
  • Providing commercial input and guidance for other key business functions e.g. Finance, Operations etc.
  • Supporting the Investor Relations team with analysis of market consensus numbers vs. guidance and modelling expectations
  • Centre of excellence for modelling. Provide guidance and training on Excel and financial modelling best practice to other teams as necessary.


It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have the following attributes and background:
  • A good finance, mathematics or science focused degree and/or equivalent qualification (e.g. engineering, economics, business administration, CFA)
  • Over 10 year's experience in a management consultancy, accountancy practice, investment banking and/or private equity.
  • Experience in a similar role in the oil & gas or mining industry preferable but not essential
  • Accountancy qualification helpful but not essential
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel
  • Experience of modelling natural resources in various fiscal regimes (both Production Sharing Contracts and tax/royalty) preferable, with other industrial sectors (e.g. power) helpful
  • A strong understanding of financial statements and tax, with an ability to integrate valuation models with corporate financial statements
  • Commercial and business development acumen, with capability to interpret project contract documents and legal agreements
  • An understanding of public companies and markets as well as research analyst's valuation techniques and methodologies
  • The ability to undertake economic and financial modelling analyses in varying fiscal environments
  • Experience of acting as a centre point for relevant discussions across business functions (i.e. Commercial, Finance, Technical, Operations) to "real world" sense check modelling assumptions and ensure appropriate focus is given to identified business risk and associated output sensitivities
  • Keen understanding of the complexities of working in multi-stakeholder environments
  • Good team player, with a strong work ethic and willing to work at short notice on highly varied tasks and without undue supervision
  • A flexible, hands-on, self-reliant yet co-operative team approach to the role will be essential in meeting the objectives of the Company

The role is a high profile position and will give exposure to the CFO and CEO daily and is a critical position in enabling the business to continue their growth story.
