Job Description Using discretion and judgment, the Managing Director - Canada Sales sells MFS and its products to pension funds, endowment and foundations and other institutional investors in assigned territory. In partnership with the Head of Canadian Distribution, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Canadian sales and consultant strategy. You will also coach the sales and consultant team to help ensure goals are met by providing resources, information and support.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Implement strategic plans and approaches for achieving superior results in the sales of institutional products and the gathering of institutional assets in assigned territory as well as for the rest of sales and consultant team.
  • In a player coach role, call directly on key prospects within institutional market. Manage the sales and consultant team that markets MFS Investment Management's services directly to pension funds, endowments and foundations, consultants and a variety of other institutional investors. Set challenging goals with expectations of high performance, promoting collaboration within the team, inspiring trust, building talent, driving for results and ensuring execution. Coach team members to help ensure that goals are met, by providing resources, information and support. Travel with direct reports to observe selling skills, monitor performance and provide feedback.
  • Work with Head of Canadian Distribution to develop and implement the Canadian sales and local consultant strategy. Monitor industry trends and develop a long-term strategy for marketing MFS Investment Management to Canadian corporate and public pension sponsors, endowments and foundations and other institutional investors to achieve sales goals.
  • Work closely with the global consultant team to market MFS's investment products through consultants, both research and field consultants.
  • Work closely with the platform and relationship management teams on executing the DC strategy in Canada and collaborating on cross-sell opportunities.
  • Partner with the investment team as required when coordinating the sales and consultant teams presentations to pension sponsors and consultants.
  • Collaborate with HR and the Head of Canadian Distribution to provide targeted training opportunities for the sales and consultant team.
  • Represent MFS at appropriate industry events in Canada including speaker engagements on client topics (DC, sustainability etc.)
  • Collaborate with Canada Marketing and the broader Canadian Team to establish event strategy, distribution of thought leadership and digital marketing.
  • Make full use of the CRM system to facilitate the sales process and ensure all data on prospects and consultants are recorded and correct.
  • Manage such that the region complies with all internal and external rules, policies and procedures. Meeting and achieving the minimum standards expected in terms for activity levels, compliance, and sales metrics and operates at the highest level.


Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in the institutional marketplace and in building and managing relationships with institutional clients and their investment consultants.
  • Ability to lead a team, build commitment and accountability
  • Bachelor's degree and CFA required. MBA strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the investment process and fixed income technical skills in particular. Knowledge of product and portfolio design that leads to facility and credibility working closely with investment managers.
  • Aptitude in navigating and leveraging technology tools such as video platforms, CRM systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, management and influencing skills.
  • Superbly organized with an ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple agendas.
  • Extensive travel required
