About this role

Business Unit Overview:

The Institutional Client Business (ICB) develops and maintains relationships with institutional investors including pension plans, insurance companies and industry consultants. ICB's product proposition comprises a broad range of both actively managed and index pooled/ segregated investments (traditional and alternative investment products).

The Dutch Institutional Client Business team is responsible for maintaining and expanding the institutional book of business in The Netherlands. It works in close partnership with the Portfolio Management as well as other stakeholders like Legal and Compliance teams, Reporting and Operational teams in order to adapt processes to meet customer-specific and legal requirements.

Job Purpose/Background:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overarching sales coverage (relationship and client service) for a portfolio of client accounts - effectively being the "face" of BlackRock. The focus of the role is to proactively widen and deepen client relationships to become a trusted partner. Specifically, take responsibility for the acquisition of new clients and for broadening existing relationships by ensuring a consistent delivery of high quality and seamless service offering. Work in close co-operation with BlackRock's local IShares&Wealth and Alternative specialist sales force as well as the various expertise's and channels in the wider BlackRock organization.

The candidate reports to the Head of the Institutional Client Business, The Netherlands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Client coverage across all relevant BlackRock products and strategies including active, indexed and Alternative investment products
  • Share information internally, ensuring that Account Manager Service (AMS) team are fully supported in delivering client service levels
  • Delivering against team sales and revenue targets by generating leads from existing clients and prospects and delivering against opportunities created across the full range of BlackRock's products and services
  • Have input to business strategy/planning, working collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the client experience by communicating plans, on-going client issues, and client engagement strategies
  • Acquisition of Institutional clients. Participate in local business development initiatives, RfPs and new business pitches. Represent BlackRock at client conferences, industry forums and client entertainment events as appropriate
  • Demonstrate proactivity in building in-depth knowledge of BlackRock's full product set and operational capabilities to aid query resolution and to assist with the design and delivery of external communication/reporting
  • Foster cross-selling of all BlackRock products, i.e. iShares, Cash, Transition Management and BlackRock Solutions
  • Cultivate constructive and intensive dialogue and cooperation with ICB team members, BlackRock's product specialists and portfolio management departments
  • Ensure periodic review of product and service offering, e.g. suggesting new products or client solutions
  • Ensure familiarity with industry and market developments
  • Maintenance of client information on BlackRock's database (aCRM or TeamWorld)
  • Adhere to Compliance procedures and the required trainings/Academies
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork ethic


Knowledge/Experience:
  • Strong track record in account management, sales, cross-selling and defence
  • 10+ years of relevant experience within a similar role
  • Strong existing client network with Dutch institutional investor segment
  • A profound understanding of the Dutch Institutional market, investment industry and competitive landscape
  • High level of technical, product and market knowledge, preferably VBA/CFA. He/she will be an experienced investment professional with broad technical expertise spanning major asset classes including fixed income & LDI, equities and alternatives

  • Proven ability to prioritize effectively and to take ownership. Can demonstrate a strong understanding of client issues, proactively position appropriate products, and offer timely solutions
  • Native Dutch speaker and fluent in English
