Its membership as specified in the Constitution is comprised of the Governor (who is designated as chair), State Auditor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General.

Job Summary
The SBI is responsible for the management of over $100 billion in assets from state and public employees invested in the defined benefit, defined contribution, and deferred compensation plans, non-retirement accounts, and state cash accounts. The Public Markets team oversees more than $80 billion in assets across investments in domestic and international equities, public fixed income and money markets investments.
This position is responsible for the following but not limited to:
- Reviewing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on current investment managers as assigned to ensure State Board Investment (SBI) investment managers are appropriately contributing to the SBI’s long-term investment objectives.
- Identify, review, monitor, evaluate and report on prospective investment managers and strategies within assigned asset classes for potential future inclusion in the SBI’s portfolio.
- Review and regularly report on one or more topics affecting both assigned asset classes and capital markets broadly to support and enrich investment discussions with staff, the Investment Advisory Council and other stakeholders.
- Research innovative investment strategies and investment topics to contribute to the ongoing development and enrichment of the SBI’s investment programs.
The successful candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position:
- Training in the principles and practices of accounting, economics, quantitative analysis, and investment analysis and portfolio management. Considerable knowledge of capital markets, portfolio management practices and investment strategies.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral presentations.
- Ability to read, comprehend and synthesize extensive published research material concerning such technical disciplines as economics, quantitative modeling techniques, financial analysis and portfolio management.
- Proficiency with building and maintaining Excel spreadsheets, including financial models, data analysis and dashboards.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision; ability to work under tight deadlines and consistently produce accurate and timely information.
- Strives for personal growth, enjoys and seeks out challenges. Shows desire for maintaining sharpness of skill level. Has a strong sense of commitment to the job.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of professional experience as an analyst, researcher, consultant or similar position within finance or investment setting
- Intermediate-to-advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel.
- Successful completion, or enrollment in the program and continuous progress towards completion, of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program will be required for the successful applicant.
Preferred Qualifications
- More than five (5) years of experience as an analyst, researcher consultant or similar position within an institutional investment management or plan sponsor setting
- Advanced degree, including MBA/CFA or progress towards degree/designation, is strongly preferred.
- Experience with use and application of investment-related analytical tools, including Bloomberg, Factset, eVestment and Morningstar.
Additional Requirements
