Role description:

This is an Associate position within the Mexico Portfolio Management Group - Global Fixed Income team. The candidate will report to the Mexico Head of Fixed Income & Multi Asset Strategies and will work closely with portfolio managers and the Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) team in assessing credit opportunities and making investment recommendations.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Conduct fundamental and quantitative credit research to ultimately make investment recommendations to portfolio management team
  • Filter sources of information to develop long term, well-researched investment theses on sectors and issuers
  • Analyze economic and political drivers that impact a borrower's credit quality and assessing relative value
  • Ensure robust monitoring of credit events that may impact credit worthiness of an issuer
  • Build historical and projected financial models, analyze key financial and operational metrics, develop deep valuation.
  • For existing investments held in portfolios, supervise corporate debt issuer concentration daily, highlighting compliance with investment guidelines and noting that allocations remain within regulatory limits
  • Engage with management teams, risk teams, industry sources (including ratings agencies), sell-side analysts, and investment professionals.
  • Lead reoccurring RQA & Investments team meeting to review issuers, credit events, or activities that could affect a company's credit risk
  • Communicate credit opinions to external clients to the extent required, partnering with Sales teams
  • Other Portfolio Management activities may include:
    • Support in day to day management of corporate bond portfolios
    • Produce performance attribution and ad-hoc analysis to alpha PMs


Skills, experience and education:
  • BA/BS required; progress toward CFA a plus
  • Deep knowledge of Mexican and international corporate bond market
  • Specialist in credit/financial statement analysis, with specific experience analyzing companies and in corporate bond securities
  • Sophisticated financial analysis and modelling skills
  • Entrepreneurial and ambitious nature, driven to excel in all aspects of the analytical process and in assessing opportunities in the corporate bond space
  • Inquisitive and analytically minded with a logical and detailed work ethic
  • Must possess the desire and ability to work in a team-orientated environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Very strong proficiency in English (oral and written communication)
  • Fluent in Spanish
