Job Description – Investment Analyst

PMG Firm Profile:

Prairie Management Group (PMG) was formed in 2008 as a dynamic, institutional, single family office dedicated to managing the assets of Gordon and Carole Segal, who are the founders of Crate&Barrel, and their family.  Based in Northbrook, IL, PMG runs a global asset allocation with investments in equities, fixed income, commodities, private equity, venture capital, real estate, hedge funds, as well as direct and co-investments.  The analyst position offers a unique opportunity to work with the principals of the Segal family and the senior investment professionals across all asset classes in supporting the Segal family investment portfolio.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparing for weekly internal committee meetings including asset allocation, manager performance, cash balances, and other related analytical material for investment committee evaluation
• Identifying and analyzing potential new managers for the family portfolios
• Assisting in ongoing monitoring and evaluation of existing investments
• Supporting the sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, and research on hedge funds, real estate, and private equity investments
• Assisting with strategic and tactical asset allocation and monitoring asset class weightings in family portfolios for consistency
• Participating and presenting research results at internal investment committee meetings
• Coordinating financial analysis on direct private equity and real estate transactions of interest to the family
• Attending manager presentations and outside consultant meetings  
• Completing due diligence on investment concepts introduced at investment committee meetings
• Coordinating reporting with the family’s investment advisors and banking relationships
• Creating and generating customized performance, attribution, and allocation reports for family members
• Supporting the management of an individual stock portfolio, including equity research, asset allocation, sector analysis, reporting on quarterly conference calls, and performance reporting

Position Qualifications:

Prairie Management Group is looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills and a desire to focus on investment analysis and due diligence.  A four-year degree is required and progress towards additional certification is preferred (CFA, CAIA, etc.).  An ideal candidate will have approximately three to five years of relevant experience, is a team player, has a willingness to learn, possesses strong Excel skills, and has an understanding and ability to utilize a variety of analytical tools (Bloomberg, Morningstar, Addepar, etc.).  Any experience with family planning and tax management is a plus. The Analyst reports to the Director of Asset Allocation and Marketable Investments and this position has the potential for significant growth and progression within the team over time.
