As part of the Portfolio Operations team, the Trading Specialist will work under the supervision of the Director of Portfolio Operations in helping to implement the investment strategies of our investment products, including trading for our mutual funds and managing and implementing our Model SMA business, trade support, performance and attribution measurement across all products, compliance reporting/monitoring and supporting the Firm’s marketing needs. The role will require both independent and collaborative work in a small firm setting. The ideal candidate will have high integrity, be a self-starter, who is diligent with details and is eager to learn the details of investment implementation. The role will have a diverse set of responsibilities, challenges, processes and stakeholders in a small, growing company and thus presents a unique opportunity for the right candidate to obtain broad investment industry experience. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Execute trade orders for our portfolios under the supervision of the Director of Portfolio Operations
  • Assist in trade reporting and trade allocation
  • Support Model SMA, Institutional SMA and model allocation businesses, including trading, implementation, and business line support where appropriate
  • Support Best Execution obligations and Trade Oversight process, including preparation of reports for quarterly trade oversight meetings and other trade performance reporting
  • Provide research and market intelligence to support the Portfolio team
  • Support syndicate (IPO, follow-ons) process with the Portfolio team
  • Support trade rotation process
  • Support implementation and testing new trading software
  • Support new fund launches or client onboarding, including providing market research to help support product launch decisions
  • Support Portfolio Managers prepare for annual and quarterly commentaries
  • Support annual 15(c) process
  • Support other business areas, such as sales and marketing source relevant and approved portfolio characteristics and data
  • Support Private Investment process, including fair value research and analysis
  • Works independently as well as on a team, able to support the investment, compliance, investment-consulting group, sales and marketing teams
  • Work across departments to improve process and output


  • Minimum BA/BS or equivalent preferably in business/finance or computer science
  • Excel/MS Office proficiency a requirement, experience with SQL and databases a plus
  • Experience with trading systems and platforms, including Bloomberg
  • 2-4 years experience trading a variety of products is a plus, equity is the focus, but we manage across a wide range of assets and are looking to grow our product base
  • Must be a self-starter with positive attitude and willingness to work hard and be on a steep learning curve
  • Attention to detail with demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Must have a willingness to work on and learn new software applications
  • Must have good communications skills and be a team player
  • Adheres to the highest ethical standards, personally and professionally
