Debt Advisory - What do we do?

We provide independent advice to borrowers across the full spectrum of debt markets. We assist with refinancing requirements associated with maturing debt facilities and amendment exercises to assist our clients to obtain covenant or facility flexibility. We also assist borrowers to obtain new debt funding facilities to support their business through growth and expansion such as capex facilities and accessing new debt markets. We also assist clients to obtain facilities to fund acquisitions and staple debt packages to accompany any sale processes.

What will your typical day look like?

You will assist clients in solving complex business and transaction issues and to help achieve their funding objectives. This will see you provide advice related to optimal capital structures, refinancing and the restructuring of existing debt facilities.

More specifically, your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Working on a range of debt advisory projects with regular interaction with clients, banks, advisors and other service lines.
  • Assisting with day to day management of transaction processes, including the preparation of information packs, management presentations, financial analysis and client communications.
  • Industry/company research for both deal origination and transaction analysis.
  • Financial modelling, including analysing business forecasts, evaluating scenario analysis and covenant calculations.
  • Contribution to marketing and business development activities.
  • Involvement in developing, coaching and motivating junior members of the team.

About the team

The Debt Advisory group comprises a team of highly experienced debt professionals based in Sydney and linked to a Global network of over 180 across 20 countries. Our expertise ranges from the provision of strategic advice on the optimum capital structure and available sources of finance through to the execution of raising debt. In recent years, the local team have advised on over 100 transactions combined debt facilities in excess of $35bn.

Our preferred candidate is a natural collaborator who is able to think unconventionally, apply commercial thinking and challenge the status quo in designing solutions to real and technical problems.

Prior Debt Advisory or corporate lending experience is preferred and you may have a background of working in corporate or investment banking or professional services firms.

You will also have:

  • A sound commercial acumen and an understanding of financial markets, debt-related products and trends across debt capital markets.
  • A commitment to, and proven experience in, delivering an exceptional service to clients, with an ability to work quickly and establish effective working relationships.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a Debt Advisory related role with associated hands-on experience in debt structuring, credit analysis and financial modelling.
  • Strong analytical skills and an understanding of financial statements. Excellent numeracy skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to absorb and analyse large amounts of data quickly and an ability to undertake detailed financial and commercial analysis for inclusion in presentations and client reports.
  • Logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Proven project management and organisational skills.
  • The self-confidence/appetite to be involved in business development activities.
  • A degree in finance, economics, accounting or mathematics with a relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. CA, CFA or Masters in Finance).
