Treasurer & Director, Financial Evaluations

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Finance, Technology & Supply Chain (CFO), the Treasurer & Director, Financial Evaluations (Treasurer) of BC Hydro is accountable for leading the Treasury function, commercial negotiation services and financial modeling and evaluation for the organization. The Treasurer works closely with the BC Ministry of Finance, the BC Hydro Executive Team and Board of Directors in supporting the attainment of the organization’s mission to provide reliable, affordable, clean electricity throughout British Columbia, safely.

The scope and responsibility for this position encompasses management of the organization’s $22B of debt. This includes the formulation of strategic plans for BC Hydro in the areas of cash and debt management, business contract management, long-term plans related to borrowing (currently over $2B/annum to fund capital expenditures), pension management and insurance programs. Through effective delegation, coaching and management of a team of 18 financial professionals, the Treasurer oversees the operation of BC Hydro’s treasury department as well as negotiations of all strategic commercial agreements, identifying long term opportunities for the organization.

The ideal candidate is a senior treasury professional with a CFA designation and proven leadership experience from a large, capital-intense, multi-functional organization. A strong influencer and collaborator, you bring superior technical knowledge and proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans in a treasury leadership role, including financial modeling, hedging, risk, credit, forecasting and capital structure. The ability to build solid relationships and trust amongst a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders will be paramount to success in the role.

The Treasurer will possess expert knowledge in qualitative analysis and best practices and controls in managing operational risks associated with a treasury environment. Additionally, he/she will have a proven track record of identifying process improvements for large organizations, strong negotiation skills, and be skilled at communicating complex contract strategies and implications to Executive Management and the Board of Directors.
