The role of the Director of Research is to support the Mesirow Financial Retirement Planning and Advisory (RPA) team with due diligence on retirement products and qualified plan investment research activities, provide timely investment analysis, communicate with fund managers about investments, maintain fund guidance list, create watch lists, contribute to the portfolio construction and modeling process and assist with preparation of the client reports on a quarterly and annual basis. Candidate will be able to discuss due diligence results with clients and address common concerns.

Responsibilities:
•Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of Mutual Funds, Collective Trusts, Exchange Traded Funds and other investment vehicles
•Provide information to the RPA Investment Committee to support the decision making process
•Lead regular meetings to discuss investment themes and present investment research
•Facilitate quarterly RPA Investment Committee process and prepare materials that will be used for committee meetings
•Schedule and conduct portfolio manager interviews and summarize conversations notes for distribution to Investment Managers
•Provide commentary for marketing pieces on research topics such as market trends, equity and fixed income analyses
•Maintain due diligence files
•Research/due diligence for all aspects of retirement product and qualified plan advisory

Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
•CFA preferred
•5+ years experience institutional or private client fund research. Advanced knowledge with financial planning and investment-oriented databases and analytical software (i.e. Morningstar Direct, Envestnet, Excel, etc.) strongly preferred
•Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required
•Demonstrates the ability to work and interact with all levels within the organization
•Superior skills in organization, time management, prioritization, research and self-motivation
•Team player with a positive attitude
•Ability to travel locally
