DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

     * Through virtual instructor training, one on one coaching, conference calls, work with each Financial Advisor trainee and contingent hire to develop necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to build their professional practice within the respective step of the training process. This involves providing study support, coaching and encouragement to those completing the regulatory courses required to become IIROC Securities licensed representatives. These courses include:

          + Canadian Securities Course (CSC)

          + Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH)

     * Ensure that all Financial Advisor trainees are equipped with the required equipment, course materials, and resources necessary to complete their studies successfully.

     * Develop and update study curriculum (study schedules, CyberArk, study notes, conference calls, etc.)  and/or training processes periodically and when necessary.

     * Serve as the responsible party that monitors, evaluates and sets performance expectations or requirements from the beginning of the study period through Know Your Customer (KYC) class.

     * Track and assist Senior SST/TL in auditing and communicating attrition rates and exam success rates for both Financial Advisor trainees and contingent hires.

     * Collaborate and engage with all Regions through various methods (monthly reports and calls) to inform them of the contingent hires in the pipeline and ensure appropriate engagement for contingent hires and Financial Advisor trainees.

     * Assist in Assist in executing various projects that support New FA Training and act as a representative for the department across the firm.

     * Post-secondary education required (University Degree preferred).

     * Canadian Securities Course (CSC) required.

     * Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH) required.

     * Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) required within 6 months of hire.

     * CFP, FCSI, Ch.P., PFP, CFA or other professional financial designation considered an asset.

     * Solid understanding and knowledge of the Canadian regulatory educational requirements.

     * Knowledge of the financial industry.

     * Proven ability to train and/or coach adult learners, including counselling and providing feedback, in a distance learning format.

     * Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

     * Exceptional one-on-one and group communication skills.

     * Ability to influence others without authority.

Problem Solving:

     * Considers and consults all relevant stakeholders when researching training problems/business questions and systematically uses accurate information and sound judgement when exploring alternatives and arriving at solutions.

     * Ability to develop, adjust and accommodate a variety of different training paths for the variety of hires while considering regulatory rules and business impacts.

     * Identifies negative trends in study training phase, research causes and recommends solutions.

           

Decision Making:

     * Reviewing Financial Advisor trainee issues with Senior SST/TL (e.g. exam failures, leave of absences, class transfers, poor performance, etc.) requires strong knowledge of precedent, HR procedures and firm guidelines to make decisions. More complex decisions involve a high-level of review. When necessary, decisions are to be made in a collaborative environment that may include peers, the Regions, Leaders and Partners.

     * Decisions made need to exude consistency and fairness as they have high impact from a business perspective and a risk management perspective.

     * Decisions require the ability to recognize and provide insights on special situations, non-routine issues, unique circumstances and their broad implications to the firm.

     * Recommend and assist in communicating of termination decisions based on multiple factors considered at key terminable points which are consistent with the firm's established performance standards.

Span of Influence:

     * The span of influence is high in that the position plays a factor in the long-term Financial Advisor growth needs of the firm. Exam failures and attrition can lead to the firm not attaining its growth objectives.

     * The position has responsibility for communicating the firm's culture, reputation and employee value proposition with those in the contingent hire and study phase in order to attract and retain top talent at the firm.

     * The position partners with transition managers, various leaders, the Regions, Human Resources areas and external vendors to accomplish responsibilities and meet objectives.

     * The position assists Senior SST/TL with supervisory responsibility for new Financial Advisor trainees that includes performance reviews, terminations and other HR decisions until Know Your Customer (KYC) class.
