Opportunity:

  • MUFG Securities (Canada Ltd.) is hiring for an Analyst/Associate position on the Canadian Capital Markets Group (“CMG”) origination team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing team with significant responsibility, consistent client exposure, and high internal visibility, as well as to gain transaction experience across sectors and products in both DCM and ECM. 

Summary:

  • The candidate will support and assist senior members of the Capital Markets Group in all aspects of the groups business including the identification, pursuit and execution of debt and equity capital market opportunities within the MUFG client portfolio. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include maintaining/updating comparable deals database; preparing pitch books, internal underwriting and syndication memoranda and supporting team members in winning mandates, and executing transactions
  • Evaluate MUFG Canada’s portfolio (MUFG Bank) for potential capital market opportunities and aid senior coverage officers in discussion and analysis in regards to capital structure transactions
  • Monitor current equity and debt transactions across industry verticals and provide the capital markets and the relationship management teams with relevant information in a timely fashion
  • Prepare weekly Canadian Capital Markets update and new issue pricing to be sent to clients
  • Establish deep knowledge base of the Canadian bond and stock markets, identifying trends and originating unique ideas  
  • Review a broad range of financial reports and identify impact to our client base: credit, rating agency, recent earnings, equity reports, strategy, economic, etc.
  • Contribute to client planning, client strategy, and Relationship Management through the development, implementation, and maintenance of business plans, and databases of client activity

Skills & Knowledge:

  • As an integral part of a growing team, the candidate will need to be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and a strict attention to detail  
  • Drive and motivation to excel in a target-driven and high-performance culture with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge and experience in equity valuation techniques, credit analysis, financial modelling and capital structuring
  • Effective time management skills; sets appropriate priorities, and anticipates business needs
  • Proactive and assertive when dealing with business issues; juggles multiple responsibilities/projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written to groups or individuals
  • Effectively represents MUFG Securities in developing and maintaining relationships both externally and internally throughout the bank

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering or related discipline (or higher/equivalent qualification)
  • Position requires 1-2 years of previous capital markets (DCM/ECM) or investment banking experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working on a Canadian DCM team 
  • CFA Candidate or charter holder is an asset
