JobDescription :
The Role:
As an Associate, you will analyze a portfolio of health care organizations including assessments of market position, strategic positioning and execution as well as assessments of the organization's historical and projected financial trends. You will also be accountable for resolving difficult deal-specific analytical situations. This position is responsible for meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters, assisting in resolving client needs, contributing to media and market engagement activities in conjunction with senior members of the team, and taking the lead at external meetings related to credits, as assigned.

The Location: New York, Chicago, Centennial, Dallas, or San Francisco

The Team:
The health care team has a strong, collegial environment and friendly atmosphere. As an Associate, you will work very closely with other senior analysts, and we expect you to play a role in developing and mentoring our junior staff. A lot of the work is completed independently, but every rating involves a team of analysts, so teamwork is extremely important! As analysts in a regulated company, we value those who are pro-active, organized and detail-oriented. The pace is fairly rapid, since at any time any analyst is probably juggling numerous ratings. The position allows you to gain and demonstrate exceptional depth and breadth of knowledge in the national healthcare market. If you have a passion for research, financial analysis and healthcare, you'd love this opportunity.

The Impact:
The selected individual will have the opportunity to increase our ability to efficiently and effectively serve our clients. Your analysis and work is essential to the covering of a diverse portfolio of credits, as well as in the training of others to help them resolve difficult day-to-day analytical issues and problems. Your position as a health care analyst is extremely important as this is a high profile and dynamic sector. In addition to having your hand on the pulse of U.S. Public Finance, your opinions will often be sought out by industry leaders and participants. You will also be asked to continue to contribute to improvements to our processes, our analysis, and our products.

What's in it for you:
As a health care analyst, you will be responsible for delivering S&P's views and opinions on important issues affecting credit quality in the municipal bond market. The job is challenging and will require you to bring your best every day to ensure analytical excellence and rating accuracy. This role is a mid-level analytical position, with significant growth opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary analyst for a portfolio of moderately complex healthcare credits. This will include being an active, vocal voting member of the committee who makes recommendations to the rating committee and prepares material for ratings publication;
  • Contribute to sector research and thought leadership publications;
  • Learn and apply S&P criteria & systems and effectively communicate S&P's methodology and procedures to clients;
  • Lead initiatives designed to increase our ability to efficiently and effectively serve our clients; and
  • Ensure a risk aware culture including leading by example.

What We're Looking For:
We are looking for a person who has a deep understanding of the municipal market and has a serious interest in the inner workings of health care, especially those factors that affect credit quality. We want someone who is detail oriented, but can take a step back and see the broader picture. We are looking for someone who is confident, thoughtful, and curious.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • The candidate should possess critical thinking skills, along with proficiency with major off-the-shelf software.
  • The candidate should have the aptitude to be a team player, but also be able to work independently.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent time management and ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and multitask; the ability to think independently and critically; and the ability to mentor others.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in finance, health care administration, management or related field or CFA; a plus, but not required.
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience; experience in health care finance is a plus.
